Stages Two and Three carry the same genre of music throughout, with slight off-putting changes made. The music is surrounded by noticeable static, adding to the notion of “the glory of old age and recollection,” according to the description of Stage One - “The last of the great days.” Stages 1-3 are essentially made up of 1920s and ‘30s ballroom music, a small ode to the haunted ballroom scene of Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining,” from where The Caretaker got his name.

The beginning of the album is actually rather beautiful. So what comes before that? Clearly, the process of dementia doesn’t start out as desolate as its culmination. It’s ironic: The one who’s devoted all his time to the topic of remembrance finds his end by losing the ability to remember. In fact, being Kirby’s final task under this project, “Everywhere at the End of Time” is meant to act as the death of The Caretaker - not his physical death, but the death of his memory, his mind and his own person. Both websites offer timestamps of each song and descriptions of each stage, the latter written by The Caretaker himself.

The full album can be found to purchase on Bandcamp and can be accessed on YouTube as well. Their cryptic titles get noticeably bleaker as they’re read down the list, from the first (“It’s just a burning memory”) all the way to the last (“Place in the World fades away”), as each release represents an advancing stage of dementia. In total, there are 50 songs, together worth up to six and a half hours of listening. Between 20, six subsequent LPs were released, all of which were eventually compiled into the album.

Overall, “Everywhere at the End of Time” took three years to complete. With his final undertaking as The Caretaker, the aim was to showcase the irreversible effects of dementia, a disease that appears harmless at its onset until introducing an inevitable entrance into complete nothingness. Going under the pseudonym “The Caretaker,” Kirby embarked on a long-term musical project with the purpose of exploring the concept of memory: both its sentimental aspects and the desolation brought on by its destruction. Fear is merely a common reaction when perceiving the weight of reality’s tragic events. On May 17th, 2020, user Clock uploaded a video titled 'A song plays in a store, however it's the end of the world', which featured one of the songs from the piece, accompanied with atmospheric background noise (shown below, right), gaining over 97,000 views in six months.James Leyland Kirby never had the intention of scaring anyone with his work. The video gained over 40,000 views prior to being unlisted (shown below, bottom left). On March 15th, YouTube user boltun made a Penis Music video using the piece's music titled 'dementia music'. On May 24th, user Sobadsosad made a 7-minute abridged version of the album, focusing on the album's theme of degradation as it occurred to the album's first track 'It's Just a Burning Memory'(shown below, top right), gaining over 182,000 views. On June 11th, 2020 YouTuber A Bucket of Jake made a video detailing his thoughts on the album, calling it 'the darkest album I have ever heard' (shown below, top left), gaining over 970,000 views in five months. Through 2020, the album gained major traction on YouTube. As of October 20th, 2020, the video had over 330,000 views.

One of the earliest examples of internet notoriety was a video by YouTube user HancKK, which used footage of music reviewer Anthony Fantano crying in reaction to Mac Miller's 'Good Things' juxtaposed with music from the record (shown below). The following year, the album began to get major attention from internet users.
